Excel 2007 to Excel v4

I am modifying a Lookout v5.1 system. We are adding some new PLCs and I was trying to import the data member configuration into a driver object. If I export the configuration and edit it with Microsoft Excel 2007, Excel upgrades it to the v97-2003 XLS format. Lookout fails to read the resulting file. According to the documentation, Lookout can't deal with Excel files in formats newer than Excel v4. Does anyone know of a way to convert a file from the 1997 XLS format to the v4 XLS format? Excel does not seem to have an option to save in formats older than 1997.

Thanks for any ideas.

I guess my next best bet is to do some text file manipulation and paste text directly into my LKS source file, because I'm not interested in entering 100s of member elements through the Lookout dialog box.

Excel 2003 can save as 4.0 format.

We added a feature to 6.2 that supports 2003 format.

Taking an alternate approach, I am looking at the LKS source file. In a Modbus object's data member definition, there is a letter after the member field (the modbus register). This letter seems to be usually an "l", "n" or "i". Can you tell me the meaning for this letter?

Thanks!

It's the data type of the register that the alias is bound to. l for logic, n for numeric, t for text.

Does anyone know of an opensource spreadsheet that will work with 6.1? Is there an known replacement for Excel v4 that will work as a replacement?

Thanks, Mark

Only alternative I can recommend trying is OpenOffice.org.  Free, but have not tested myself.

Good luck
