A friend asked if I had ever used any of the SCADA products like Intellution, Wonderware, etc. I told him I used Lookout for a system about 10yrs ago, and thought it worked well, and offered easy access to acquired data, unlike my experience with Intellution's Fix (mid 90's, so that's ancient history).
Went to NI's website out of curiosity, and couldn't find it throught the front door, had to resort to a Google search. Looks to me like it's not being promoted. Is NI pushing something else instead? OR is this just an example of horrible web design?

NI is still investing in Lookout, and you can find it from www.ni.com/lookout
But it's true that you can find more LabVIEW related products on NI website. The alternative is the LabVIEW DSC module. www.ni.com/dsc
Lookout is based on the configuration and a standalone software, however LabVIEW is a graphical programming platform. The DSC module adds the HMI/SCADA features to the LabVIEW.

Thanks glad to see that the product isn't dead, because I thought it was good at what it was meant to do. Seems like it should be listed alongside Labview as a software product on the website.

Is there a conversion path from Lookout to Labview that can convert .lks or .lkp files for use in labview automatically? Or, would all reprogramming have to be manual? Will Lookout live on as standalone substantially into the future?

It cannot be converted automatically. You need to do reprogram it. Actually they are two separate softwares.

I know NI tries to always push their flagship software but I think in many cases Labview is overkill for certain projects. Lookout is truly a great SCADA, HMI package that's also way more easier to use. I really think NI should take a closer look at promoting Lookout as it is not a threat to Labview but a compliment and diversifies the NI product line. I've tried many other SCADA packages, WonderWare, Indusoft, ClearSCADA, and nothing compares to Lookout which I feel is far superior.

Having been working with ClearSCADA recently, there are still many things that Lookout does well, but it is also a little behind on others.
Vector graphics, reliable database, hot-standby redundancy (of all data, running and historic).

I am still successfully using it, hope NI wont stop with supporting it!

I'm glad Lookout is still supported. But, I'd like to know if Lookout 6.5 supports new standards as OPC UA?
