Hi Hill,
Does this happen with all processes or just with the particular process you are working with right now? I would create a new test process and see if the issue persists.
Are the strange characters displayed in the alarms window or on the control panel?
I would also run this on a newer version of Lookout [ you can download the latest version of Lookout from ni.com and run it in evaluation mode]. The readme.txt file in the link below has a list of known issues that were corrected from Logos4.4 and were integrated into Logos 4.5. <http://digital.ni.com/softlib.nsf/websearch/A95A8DD4DFF63DA786256DA400618C59?opendocument&node=132070_US>. This version of Logos works with Lookout 4.x and above. Hope this helps!

Hi,
If you are going to try the latest version of Lookout, make sure that you follow the instructions in this document to convert your 3.8 process:
How to convert Lookout 3.8 Processes to Run Under Lookout 5.1?
Another reason that you may want to update is that Lookout 3.8 was released a long time before Windows XP. There could be things that are native to XP that are causing the problem. One simple thing to try is to disable Windows Firewall and see if Lookout 3.8 behaves better.
Good Luck,
Mike
