We have purchased several Lookout Development/Run Time Server 5.0 and 5.1 and Run Time Server 6.0 licenses. Actually in 2 years National Instruments has developed this software from 5.0 to the latest 6.0.1. All these licenses are used for a unique machine design in our company. Because we are going to make a massive production of this machine, it is not desired to have different versions of the same software, which runs the same application in every machine.
A few months ago we ordered the purchasing of 11 Run Time Server-Unlimited I/O licenses of Lookout 5.1, what we got was Lookout 6.0. After the installation of these CDs, It was available the Development feature for a demo period of time on these new computers. This created a problem by mistake: a light modification was done for a quick test and saved under 6.0 during the demo period. There was no way to open with Lookout 5.1 what Lookout 6.0 saved. Then the demo period expired, Lookout 6.0 not longer can open again Edit mode. The original application made by Lookout 5.1 has to be recompiled in order to be ran under 6.0, so there is no turning back is there is not a saved copy of the original design.
We understand that National Instrument is constantly improving but our company isn't interested to upgrade something that runs great under Lookout 5.1. In the another hand, more licenses of the same software are about to be ordered. There is a concern:
It is possible to get more Run Time Only Server-Unlimited I/O licenses of Lookout 5.1 now and in the future?
We need a written answer, please feel free to send me an email with suggestions/options.
Regards.

Hi,
Your explanation is rather confusing, however I'm sure NI would be happy to generate some Lookout 5.1 license codes for you at the appropriate price. Just give your NI sales rep a call (or email) and they will send a quote. After payment, you can call or email info for license generation and they will email it back to you...usually very quickly. Use your local sales engineer as point of contact if you have problems getting what you want.
As for the version control....ALWAYS backup EVERYTHING before messing with any repair, upgrade or reinstall of Lookout. You can recover the .lks file back to 5.1 once you determine which object formats have changed and a little investigation as to how to go through the .lks and replace the new formats with the original equivalent. Then you can re-compile under 5.1. I have done this before and it isn't painless but it can be done.
Cheers,
Ed
