What is LW Message Synch?

I am running Lookout 5.1 and I noticed that after exiting Lookout, when restarting or shutting down the computer (recent Dell desktop / Win XP) there is an app that is "un-responsive" called LW Message Synch.

The only time I have seen this is when running processes with pager objects...

Anyone know what this is and how to make it quit correctly?

Hello,

LW most of the times stands for LabWindows/CVI when talking about NI products. Do you have this software installed in your computer? Now, are you sure this error message is related to Lookout? Is it something you can reproduce every time you use the pager object in Lookout?
Can you see that application as a process in the task manager? Does this application show up when running the process file in Lookout?
Thank you

That's exactly it... It isn't in apps or processes in Task Mgr. The only time I have seen it was with pager processes. I have seen this behavior on multiple computers.

I have seen Lookout crash when closing certain processes, probably pagers but I am not totally sure about that, but in the same setup that has the LW Message Synch issue...

Any clues?

I will look more into it later this week

Hello,

I have done some research and haven't been able to find anything related to LW Message Synch. I did a quick research with R&D and there is no process or thing called like that related to Lookout. So what I think is that your computer might have software that is related to serial ports. Maybe a sniffer or something that monitors the serial port.
You say that you are able to see the behavior with several computers. Can you check what software is installed in them different from Lookout?
Thank you

I have been trying some other things, forgetting about LW Message Synch for the time being, and have discovered some consistent problems.

First I loaded all the processes for this system, and then I try to exit Lookout, resulting in Lookout crashing just after closing the Pagers process.

If I only load the pagers process, I can close it or exit Lookout with no problem.

I also tried re-compiling all of the lks files and re-saved them to a new folder... Same crash behavior after the Pagers process closes.

It doesn't seem to affect lookout's performance, and maybe it is some bug in Lookout, but I sure would feel better if I knew what the hey is going on here.

The problem seems to be in the Pagers process that is using 118 pager objects. Is there some problem with using that many Pager objects?

Thanks again

Hello,

Can you provide me with a copy of your process file? I will try to reproduce it here.  If you cannot provide it, that is ok, I just would like to test with the file that seems to be causing some problems.

Thank you

Hello,

What you can do is upload it to our FTP server.  Just let me know the name of the zip folder.

The address of the FTP server is: ftp://ftp.ni.com/incoming

Don't worry about security because no one outside NI can download from the server.

Thank you

Ricardo
