Which modbus addresses should be considered for communication?

I am using Lookout ver. 5.1.Please tell me if i want to communicate with a modbus enabled power instrument through com port which has addresses ranging 2304 to around 7756. Which of modbus registers in lookout can i use to read words from the device.How & why.?
I am working on Windows 2000.

What kind of register are (in the instrument)? Holding or Input?

If they are Holding you have to read 32304 to 37756.

If they are Input you have to read 42304 to 47756.

Try both... one of them must work... 🙂
