communication Zetron 1700 Lookout 5.1

I'm trying to have a communication between lookout and a Zetron M1700. I always have this error: "A Garbled communication response from Modbus secondary)(0):Response too short error". I tried many thing without any succes.

Here the setting that I use when I want to communicate with Lookout.

For the controller Zetron 1700 I put the switch in the Model 4115 status
panel
mode.
I'm using adress 11.

In Lookout
I'm configured my serial port 1, Data rate 4800 , Data bit 8 stop bit 1, no

parity, Poll Rate 5 sec., Retry Attemps 4, Receive Timeout 0.5 sec and adress 11

Note that when I used Hyperterminal to communicate with the Zetron 1700, All looks to works very well.

Hi,

Try increasing the Receive gap setting for your Serial Port in Lookout (under Options menu).

This should help.

Khalid

Hi there,

So you ARE able to communicate succesfully with the COntroller from the HyperTerminal? And on the same computer as Lookout (i.e., using the same COM port, etc.)?

In that case, can you mirror the settings from HyperTerminal into Lookout? Same baud rates, same parity, same everything. You're probably doing this already.

One thing you can try is, to compare the data that is sent out by the HyperTerminal with that of Lookout. For this you can use a Serial port "sniffer" like PortMon. This is a freeware tool that can be downloaded from:

http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freeware/portmon.shtml

This is an excellent utility. It will log and display in real-time all the data going in and out of your serial port. Note th
at you need to launch Portmon before you launch Lookout.

Hope this helps you.

Khalid

Portmon this very good and is enough complete. Copy the information of hyperterminal to lookout. But it follows the message "Garbled communication response from Modbus secondary(0):Response too short. It could change something with respect to Radio RTS/CTS (delay off, Timeout) or Hardwire.

Diagnostic file setting:
08:16:04.4 - Modbus1 ->

Hello Cunto,

The two logs you provided are both from Lookout.

Did you compare the Portmon ouput from HyperTerminal with that of Lookout? What's the difference between the two? That should lead us to the answer.

I compared the information between HYPERTERMINAL and LOOKOUT, is quite different mainly in
VCOMM_SetReadCallBack_Trigger
VCOMM_GetSETCommTimeouts_SET

In lookout where these values can be changed

Hi Cunto,

The two files are indeed quite different. There has to be some configuration details that are different between Lookout and the HyperTerminal.

Anyways, I know a very experiencd Support Engineer at Zetron who has worked a lot with Lookout. He has generously agreed to help you out. Please give me your email address so I can send his contact info' to you.

You may want to add some extra easily-recognizable characters to your email address when posting here to avoid web crawlers that harvest email addresses for spammers from such forums.

Thanks,

Khalid
