mailer object problems

I have my mailer object working OK for the most part. As a test, I disconnected from my network and tried to send an alarm to see what would happen. I get "cannot find smtp host" as expected, but the alarm scrolls continously in the alarm window, generating thousands of the same alarm. It is like it is caught in an endless loop. I have tried every combination in the mailer I can think of with no luck. My development laptop and the onsite server both do the same thing (I noticed many of the same alarms when the email server went down one night). Right now I have 10 second timeout, 5 retries 10 minutes apart. Anyone seen this before?

I also noticed that the message buffering appears to be infinite. I got alarms that were 10 hours old when my email came back up, even though I'm set for 5 retries, 10 minutes apart. This mailer object seems a bit buggy, can anyone comment?

I tried it on my computer. If the network is disabled, Lookout will repeat trying to connect to sever. If the retry delay is 10min, I believe it will retry and get alarm every 10min. But you said there were thousands of alarms... weird.
What's your lookout's version?
Can you post a screenshot of the alarm window? I'd like to see those continuous alarms and the time.
If you create a new process, just add a mailer object in it and do some configuration, will it too generate a lot of alarms when you disconnect the network?
