editor

Hi,

Is there a text editor available for writing *.ms files but that adds some colours to special commands, comments, etc. Now I use notepad but I like to have something better.

When I was using such an editor it was a pretty snappy interface with the MultiEdit, it could be customized for both the language such as .ms, .msc, .mso, .msf's as well as for TPL and ui. In addition it could be interfaced to a CM tool such as sourcesafe fairly simply. In addition, it already had language recognition for standard programming languages such as C, C++ and Ada.

It is much more amenable to programming complex systems than Notepad since you can have multiple windows open within a project at the same time.

I believe the web site is: http://www.multieditsoftware.com/

But you should confirm that it is the editor offered on this web site and not something zany. It has been a few years since I last purchased the software. I think that they may have a lite version to download and tinker with to see if it will meet your needs.

I think too that Carl had another option that he had customized to recognize the languages and commands. I don't recall what it was but it might be in the history.

Sincerely,

Garrett

Raf,
See this post: http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=210&message.id=268

As Garrett said I have created some configuration files for Crimson that adds syntax highlighting. This information is linked from the other post. There is also a link to a tutorial that describes what you would need to add syntax highlighting to other editors (the editor would of course need to support syntax highlighting and allow it to be customized).

Yet a third option is Editplus (www.editplus.com) which is rather easy to customize. It have several nice features such as color syntaxing, templates which allow you to specify how a script file (*.ms) should look like when you create a new with the menu option "File->New ...->Xmath Script File" (or a command - *.msc, or a function - *.msf). I.e. when you have created the template and configured editplus then it is possible to use the menu like this. Other features are row numbering, auto completion (if you like that), rather intelligent search & replace, gathering files from different locations into projects which makes the easy to find, etc ...

I really like this editor. I use it for MATRIXx, Matlab (only sometimes as it has features which medit doesn't have), Fortran, C, html and plain text of course
