Hello friends: I have been given the task of using a 1722 Camera to create inspection routines to catch surface blemishes on plastic parts made in hundreds of thousands quantity. The 1st part for inspection is a clip handle as shown in the attached. It really has no flat surfaces or straight lines. Its smooth fillets scatter light off its edge.
As a first timer with NI vision systems, I am having difficulties with matching patterns and geometry. The defects on this injection molded part remotely in the printing and they are extremely minor.
Can someone give me some basic guidence? (Vision inspection only, NO LabView)

I would suggest less harsh lighting. It looks like a single light source to the left of the part. I would try a distributed light source to eliminate bright spots and shadows. Perhaps a large ring light so the light comes from all sides equally.
