MAX 4.5 is extremely slow

I just updated to Vision Acquisition Software 8.6.0 and starting up MAX takes an extremely long time (maybe 10 minutes).  I'm not sure where to begin since it's so slow.  It eventually loads but I don't have that kind of patience.  What is it doing for so long?  Plus, when it finishes loading, expanding the tree is incredibly slow as well.  It also sometimes gives the error:

MAX Database Connection Error
There was a problem connecting to the database.

Please restart your computer. Refer to KnowledgeBase article 42HG08DD for more information and contact National Instruments if the proble persists.

This is the knowledgebase article the error dialog was referring to:

Has anybody used this software yet and experience this?

Thanks,
Bruce

I have 4GB of RAM.  I can afford a lot of virtual memory, but I'm running 32bit windows so I don't think it'll do any good.

Expanding the tree used to take some time, now it takes a verrrry long time.

I hope it is not due to some trojan action.I have been up and running for the past 2 weeks and beleive me i eliminated some 1000 odd worms and viruses and my system is  fast now.

Just in case u need to scan your PC.Since u mentioned that it was working properly earlier. Is it time for you update the virus definitions???:Smiley Wink

???  Everything besides MAX works fine.  No internet problems, other applications are running fine.  Why would MAX be the only thing affected if it was a virus?  It didn't start until I upgraded to the newest version of MAX (which released this week with LabVIEW 8.6 and IMAQ 4.1 (a.k.a. VAS8.6.0)).

I do have 3 frame grabbers, but like I said, I had this setup working earlier just fine.  No virtual com ports.  I'll try uninstalling and then reinstalling MAX to see what happens.

I still don't know what to do about this situation.  I can't even uninstall MAX because of its associations with other applications (such as LabVIEW) and I would have to uninstall and then reinstall a lot of software just to (possibly) fix the problem.  Smiley Mad  Not to mention this will take most of the day to do.
