Can't downgrade Vision Acquisition Software

Solved!
Go to solution

Here's the situation.

I got a fresh windows installation, installed LabVIEW 2013 (for code compatibility reasons), and then installed Vision Acquisition Software so I could control a Point Grey USB3 camera.

However, I was careless, and didn't check the compatibility, and I installed VAS 17.1, which apparently is only compatible with LabVIEW 2014 and newer.

Oops. So, I used the same installer to uninstall VAS 17.1. It appeared to work.

I then downloaded VAS January 2017, which is the previous version, which is compatible with LabVIEW 2013. However, then the trouble started:

vas install problem.PNG

Higher version already installed? But I already uninstalled it!

So, there is apparently some trace of the higher version of VAS lingering in my system despite the uninstallation. I've been banging my head against this. Any suggestions? Thank you!

Hi bkardon,

That's rough- I'm sorry you're having such a hard time getting the VAS software uninstalled. There are a few things that could cause something like this, but let's start by focusing on the process of uninstalling, so that we can identify where any issues may be cropping up.

What version of Windows are you working with?

Are you going through the Control Panel, or starting the uninstall process another way?

Can you walk me through the process you're using to uninstall?

Thanks!

Thank you for the reply! Sorry I omitted some important details.

I'm on Windows 10, 64 bit.

When I attempted to uninstall VAS 17.1, I used the same installer file that I used to install it. Here's the link to where I downloaded VAS 17.1

And here's the link to the VAS January 2017 that I downloaded, which I'm trying to install now.

Oh, and as for the process I use to uninstall VAS 17.1, I've screenshotted the important steps below.

At the splash screen, I click "Install"

VAS 17-1 install process step 1.PNG

When I am given the opportunity to select the features to install, I am not given the option of uninstalling anything - for example, when I click on the options for NI-IMAQdx 17.1, the options given are:

Install this feature to a local drive
Install this feature and its subfeatures to a local drive
Do not install this feature

VAS 17-1 install process step 3.PNG

This is consistent with the installer concluding that VAS 17.1 is not installed. And yet as I showed in the screenshot in my original post, it still seems to be present on my system in some capacity.

Thanks again for your help!!

Hi bkardon,

Ah, ok, I see what's happening here.

The message you see in your last screenshot is there to tell you that the installer didn't add anything new because the programs it adds are already on the computer. Our installers are not designed to remove programs- instead, you need to go through the Control Panel.

More specifically, you need to go through Control Panel > Programs and Features, then double click on National Instruments Software. At that point, you should see an interface (like the one in step 6 of this page) that allows you to choose specific NI programs from a list.

Once you've reached that page, choose the drivers you'd like to remove (looks like IMAQ, IMAQdx, and IMAQ I/O from your screenshot of the older installer), and click Remove Selected. This will start the uninstaller, and allow you to remove them from your system.

If you run into any issues with this process, feel free to open a Service Request with us by calling into 866-275-6964, and we can help you work through them.

Thank you so much! That worked nicely. I uninstalled the incorrect version of VAS, installed the correct version, and now everything seems to be working fine. Thanks again!
