The processing will be automated, but that may have some human tasks depending on the quality of implemented program that I'm developing. I am still in the research phase of possible solution. Webcam requires in my opinion an effort to develop operating systems (drivers) and have not good resolution (more than 1000pp*1000pp), however in smart cameras it isn't the same. I look to your advice.

My personal thought

1. Just monitoring and no distinguishing/ measurement required - webcam - cheap

2. Image processing (Measurement and distinguishing) you can find cheap firewire cameras. (ask me if you need one)

3. Ni-smart cmaeras if you want to use something readymade with minor tweaking. A bit costly (My opnion)

Thinks a lot for all your information. It will be interessant to focus on the two latest suggestions. For the moment can you please send me the data sheets of some color firewire cameras and how can I program them.

Again why color? I will suggest using a geyscale camera for this one. USe color camers only if there is a need to distinguish minute variation colors and a need to display color images.
