Edge detection of a video using webcams

Hi Guys!!

 I'm currently doing a project and I have to do the following:

-> apply edge detection to a video that i am acquiring from a webcam

and i dont know how to go about doing it so if any of you guys have an idea i would greatly appreciate it.

I can use the webcam and save the video, but now I would like detect the edges of a video acquiring up to ten images per second.

Can I ask what it is that you are recording with your camera as this will affect the method you use to search for the line detection.
