Firewire drops camera intermittently

We have two completely seperate systems, running Vision Builder for Automated Inspection 2009 SP1.  One of the systems has 3 firewire cameras, and we have a 2 PCI generic firewire cards, and 1 NI card with a Firewire port on it. The problem we have is that the system runs for about 12 hours at a time, but for some reason occasionally one of the cameras stops communicationing with VBAI.  This can happen on startup (more common), but can occur during the run.  We have one camera per PCI card to ensure that we have the bandwidth, but we are still seeing this problem once per week. The only way to reset the software to actually see the camera again is to reboot the system, sometimes it takes multiple attempts.  The software that came from the camera manufacturere always works.

In the second system, we have 2 GigE cameras, and we get the same problem, except once we open the step that does the acquire, and reclick on it, then the camera works again.

The error that we see is "Can't Initialize step", after clicking OK, and opening the Acquisition step it works fine.

It currently looks as if it is the association with VBAI and the cameras, but after we lose communication with the Firewire cameras, we cannot see the camera in Max either.  We can see the camera in the manufactureres software though.

Help.

When you are in the case where the camera is not showing up in MAX but is showing up in the camera vendor's software, wha do you see when you go to device manager? Do you see the camera there and what is it described as (an IMAQdx device or something else?). And after you reboot (and it presumably starts working again) does it change its name/status in device manager?
