Getting a timeout error using Dalsa Piranha2 and PCIe 1427

I'm trying to set up a Dalsa Piranha2 camera with a PCIe 1427 using NI-IMAQ 4.5 on Windows 7.  The camera is a linescan model P2-42-02K40-50E

I keep getting Error 0xBFF60022 'A timeout error occured while waiting for the specified event...'

I've tried a couple of different Dalsa camera files but the error is always the same

Camera files I've tried include;

Dalsa P2-4x-04k40

Dalsa P2-4x-02k40

Dalse P2-4k

I've tried connecting the cable to both of the ports on the camera.

The status light on the camera is green until I select the Channel0: Dalsa item then it goes red.

Any advice on what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks,

Hi Brett Percy,

Have you tried opening the camera file in the NI Camera File Generator (under the Overview tab) and performing a grab?  Do you see the correct behavior of your camera within this without the timeout?

Hello Lynn,

Thanks for your help

With the P2-4x-4k40 camera file, I get a warning that the camera file does not support the IMAQ device I have selected (see attached pics)

If I click on yes to add the interface, I get an error saying there was a problem and end up with an empty camera file

I've found I can load the Dalsa P2-2x-2k40 camera file and it 'works' if I turn down the width to 1024, in that it doesn't time out.  I do get a completely black image though.

According to the specsheet this camera has four taps but there's only two set up in the camera file and it doesn't seem to be possible to change it.

Hi Brett,

Your best option may be to create a camera file from scratch.  This will ensure that it is the appropriate configuration to start with.  It doesn't appear as if one already exists for this camera.

Hi Lynn,

I've found an alternative 2 tap Dalsa camera to use in place of the 4 tap model, so I think I'll run with that for now.  I did look at building a camera file but it's full of all sorts of details that I don't have any information on at the moment, and the original camera model was only a placeholder for the final hardware anyway

Thanks for your help

Hi Brett:

I am encounting the same problem as yours. May I ask, when you 1st come across this problem, do you use internal trigging or external trigger source? We have no problem with internal trigger. But when we choose to use External trigger, the time-out problem pops out and the camera turns read (exposure mode 6)

I *think* I was using the internal trigger at that stage, I was just trying to get an image going with the hardware I had on hand.  We eventually had an external trigger set up but that was with a non-NI frame grabber, not the PCIe 1427

Cheers,
