Hi,
I am using Vision Builder AI for a golden comparison inspection.
Using a test pattern images generated in microsoft paint, It detects most of the defect correctly, however, the areas calculated are wrong.
In image "defective patch 4," Vision Builder calculates the scaled area as 969mm^2. Image J calculation is about 14mm^2. Note that the total area of the rectangle is only 624mm^2.
What could the problem be?
Thanks!

I'm curious about your calibration settings. When I look at the Objects and Edges found, they look about 40 mm apart. Is this what you are seeing? How big is the object that you are expecting to find the area of?

It looks like there is a bug with the detect defect step in VBAI when used with calibrated images. It is currently returning the uncalibrated area, which explains why it is such a big number. I will make sure this gets fixed in the next version of VBAI. Let me know if waiting till the next release or using uncalibrated areas in the step is a major problem for you.
Thanks,
Brad

Hi Marti and Brad,
It does look like a bug. Unfortunatly I need this resolved very soon (before June 16) as a project deadline is comming up.
If it helps any, this is using an evaluation copy that we intend to purchase.
If there is a bug work around that would be great to know as well.

If someone at NI could provide a contact phone number so I could disucss the problem with the appropriate person that would be great!
Thanks!

Here's a fix for the calibration issue in the Detect Defect step. I've included three LLBs:
Windows - put this in your C:\Program Files\National Instruments\Vision Builder AI 2009 SP1\Plugins\ folder Restart Vision Builder and calibrated images should work with the step now.
CVS and EVS - put this on your CVS or EVS target in the C:\vbai\Plugins\ folder and restart the target to use the modified step.
Smart Camera - put this on your smart camera in the C:\vbai\Plugins\ folder and restart the smart camera to use the modified step.
Hope this helps and let me know if you have any feedback.
Thanks,
Brad
