How do I switch camera assignments in MAX?

I have 2 1394a cameras into 1 1394 card. MAX has christened one of them Cam0 and the other Cam1. For various reasons I want to swap them over. Just unplugging the cables doesn't do the trick because MAX is smart enough to check the camera serial numbers. So how do I make Cam1 the new Cam0, and vice versa?

Hi,

Unfortunately we currently don't expose an easy way to rename directly in MAX. This is a feature we are considering for a future release. However, a real simple way would be to go to you Data files directory (C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\National Instruments\NI-IMAQdx\Data on newer releases of IMAQdx) and delete both your cam0 and cam1 IID files (with MAX closed and the cameras disconnected). Then, open MAX and connect the cameras one at a time, in the order you want them to be named.

Eric,

Thanks for the suggestion. I did that and now have my cameras numbered as I wanted, but there's another problem. I believe the iid files are supposed to reference the camera icd files so that changes I make in MAX to camera settings are saved.  Well this wasn't happening: the iid files did not reference the icd files.

I opened the iid files in Notepad and manually entered the icd file reference but it hasn't made any difference, MAX still isn't saving my camera settings.

Any further suggestions?

Hey N,

I've been looking into your issue and I wanted to make sure that after you have modified your camera attributes (which is what I assume you are doing), that you are pressing the save button at the top of the window in MAX.  This should record those changes to your attributes so that the next time you open MAX or unplug your camera and reconnect it, it will come up with the new settings that you saved previously.  Let me know if this is not the case.  I tested this out on my IMAQdx camera earlier this morning to make sure that this is the case.

Take Care,
