How to detect solder joints in vision builder?

Hello.. 🙂

Can anybody please tell me how to detect solder joints in vision builder....? I have to detect the three solder joints and make a decision about the solder joint is fully filled or not , there is no drag on the solder joint... I'm new to vision builder so can anybody please tell me how to proceed...? Which function should I use to fulfill my requirement ?

Thanks for any help... 🙂

Hi Rupali,

Sounds like you have a very interesting application there. In vision the most commonly used feature for solder joints is pattern matching, in order to get started read the online help files in Vision Builder by searching for "pattern matching" I would also recomend reading through the following Knowledge based article:

http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/3849.

Hope this gets you started and please dont hesitate to contact me if you need me to look into this further.

The link says..... "This document contains information about the advanced pattern matching capabilities in IMAQ Vision version 6.1 and later. Advanced pattern matching contains low-level learning and matching options that enable you to customize the pattern matching algorithm to your specific machine vision application."

I'm using Vision Builder 3.5 with Vision Acquisition 8.5.1 which contains NI-IMAQ 4.0, NI-IMAQdx 3.1.2, NI-IMAQ I/O 2.1..... 🙂

Do you think I can use that information....?

Hello again,

Yes this information is relevant to you software the version 6.1 is applicable to Vision Acquisition. Give the online help in your Vision Builder a look over too, there is quite a lot of useful information in there.

Kind Regards

 Hi Rupali....

How do it go with the solder joints detection....

I'm dealing with a very similar situation,  I want to inspect a 24mm by 18 mm  PCB for solder joint and solder bridges in

 certain ROI's.

I'm doing some research about this.....   I got some sugguestion from the forum to use pattern match and intensity

but i'm not sure this will do the hard work.   I need to try,  The camera i need is expensive  18K.

  Best Regards...

Hello Rlima,

Right now I'm using intensity for solder joints, it's good but some times it gives false call... 😞 someone suggest me to try with particle detection but I don't know how to go for it... :(... Previously I was using pattern matching to see whether the solder pad is filled properly or not.. & the results were satisfactory if you are not looking for the solder shape.. 🙂

 Hi Rupali..

Thanks for your anwer.  I will take in considerarion for my project, It's moving very slow, hope to get all the approval to buy some

stuff and start doing some test.

My main problem are false rejects/calls on my inspection for screw (this is my big headache)

I'm doing pattern match, color detection and comparation also OCR for small legend all this works very very good.

I have never use particle detection, but I will give a try...

Best Regards..
