How to get a correctly colored image from an AVT Guppy F-038C?

Hi Everybody,

I´m using an AVT Guppy F-038C FireWire-Camera. With help from this forum I could solve the problem of displaying the interlaced image.
But now I´m facing a new problem:
In MAX I´m able to configure the camera to deliver an image in BayerRG8 format. In Labview I´m using the imaqDx-vis to get the image from the camera. Those vis are said to have an included de-Bayering algorithm. But the displayed image doesn´t look so good. It looks like a monochrome image with some colored dots in it.
In the "Technical Manual" of the camera it is said, that the F-038C camera is using a bayer filter with complementary colors (Green, Magenta, Cyan, Yellow) where green and magenta are changing every second line. Perhaps the imaqDx-vis are only built for the bayer filters with primary colors (Red, Green, Blue)?
I enclosed a part of such an image.

I´m using Labview 8.2 and Vision 8.2

Maybe anyone can help me, would be great....

greetings

Hey Juergen,

the bayer filter use only red, green and blue.
You can change the settings in MAX or use the white balancing utitity under:
Start>>Programs>>National Instruments>>Vision>>White Balancing Utility

Hi Elmar,

thanks for your reply. The problem I got is that there is not a ccd chip with RGB-Bayer pattern, but with an Gr-Mg-Cy-Ye Bayer pattern. The "normal" pattern should be no problem.

You can find it in the manual, at pages 133 and 134:

http://www.stemmer-imaging.de/pages/service/download.php?view=501&mode=dm&file=43147_Guppy_TechMan_V...

The "NI White Balance Utility" offers only RGB patterns.

Hey Juergen,

the tool work only with cams which inlcude the rgb bayer pattern.

Hi Elmar,

I was afraid of that. So I have to implement an algorithm to get the RGB colors myself.

Thank you for your efforts.

Perhaps there´s someone out there who knows/has a solution.

Hello Juergen,

I have a problem like you did with the same camera model. Did you succeed in the implematation of the algorithm to get the RGB color?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Best regards,

José.

Most cameras include the option to do the Bayer decoding on the camera and transmit back a color image.  It looks like that is your only option in this case.

Hello José,

I´m very sorry, but I can´t give you a solution. We changed the camera models. We now use the Guppy F036C, which has a rgb-bayer pattern and is fully supported by NI software.

It has been more efficient for us than writing an adaption for this camera.

I hope you´ll find a solution for your problem. If you have, perhaps you can let me now how you solved it.

Greetings,

Juergen
