IEEE 1394 1.5.3 Update not working from 1.5.1

I run the update from 1.5.1, it says it was successful, but the 1394imaq.sys file used is still version 1.5.1.282 and the NI uninstall software list states it is still 1.5.1.
This is in XPSP1.
In XPSP2 the update does not work at all, and nor does version 1.5.1
Is there an update from 1.5.1 to 1.5.2 I can install first?

You are right. It is recommended to install 1.5.2 before 1.5.3. Please, read the following discussion to get an answer for you question.

On a more serious note. I strongly recommend that you upgrade version 1.5.x to version 2.0.1. The driver represents a significant improvement with respects to stability and features. The driver is available on the web.
