IEEE 1394 industrial cameras not seen when using crossover cable

I am confused as to why when I use a crossover cable to communicate with my CVS 1456 i get the error "IEEE 1394 industrial cameras not found" when using VBAI to configure the cameras. I can access them in MAX, and I can even monitor an inspection, however, the only way I can change any camera settings is hooking it up to a network, then target the CVS via a remote computer hooked up to the same network. Again, whenever I open a configuration file that inspects fine with a crossover cable, I get the message "Steps not valid please correct this step". I don't understand. Please help.

Hello,

When you open VBAI, are you setting the execution target to "This Computer" or are you specifying the IP address for your CVS target? When you were able to modify the settings in MAX, were you connected to the network or were you connected via a crossover cable?

When you tried to modify them in VBAI, were you able to view images and modify the settings when you connected through the network? Which steps are being cited as invalid by Vision Builder? Are you able to acquire new images in VBAI when you connect via a crossover cable?

Please provide additional information about what system configurations you have tested and what particular steps are generating errors.
