LabVIEW 8.2 and VBAI 3.0 Development Toolkit

Can I use LabVIEW 8.2 to use the VBAI 3.0 Development Toolkit?  It insisted on using LV 8.0.1.  We use the Compact Vision Systems.  I'd like to just have one version of LabVIEW on my PC.  Not sure if I should just Mass Compile everything and hope it works.  Thanks for your input.

scott_7723,

Vision Builder AI 3.0 should work with LabVIEW 8.2, in fact it is not supposed to work with LabVIEW 8.0.  When you say it insists on using LabVIEW 8.0.1 what do you mean?  Thanks!

Hello all.

While I could be wrong, I'm fairly certain that you need LabVIEW 8.0.1 to develop custom steps for Vision Builder AI 3.0.  This is because Vision Builder AI 3.0 was actually programmed using LabVIEW 8.  (Who says LabVIEW isn't be a general purpose programming language!?)  Because Vision Builder AI is in essence a LabVIEW executable running with the LabVIEW 8.0.1 runtime engine, any plug-ins also need to use this format.

I have been told that saving LabVIEW 8.20 VIs to pervious versions will not work, nor will any sort of mass compile.  Perhaps one of the experts from NI Vision R&D or AE will be able to set us straight.

I figured, since the VBAI Development Toolkit is not in LV 8.2 under Tools like it is in LV 8.0.1.  Allison, I can not recall exactly what occurred when I stated it insisted that I used 8.0.1, but I seem to recall that when I was installing VBAI 3.0 (which was a few weeks after I installed the LV8.2 update NI sent me along with updated vision and run-time 8.2 package) I was prompted with a message stating that I could not use the Development Toolkit without first installing LV 8.0.1.  This leads me to believe that LV 8.2 will not allow me to build custom VBAI steps.    Again, I need this to work primarily on the CVS'.  I guess I'll have to trial and error it.  Thanks.

scott_7723, sorry for the confusion but Kyle is correct. Vision Builder AI 3.0 is build using LabVIEW 8.0.1. External VIs (Run LabVIEW VI step or custom steps created using the SDK) need to be compiled in the same version of LabVIEW -i.e. 8.0-. Vision Builder AI 3.0 SDK should only install if the correct version of LabVIEW is detected on the machine.

Hope this helps,

Nicolas

I apologize.  I managed to get myself confused with a conversation with a coworker.  I agree that it is the case that Vision Builder AI 3.0 is built using LabVIEW 8.0.1, and that it will not install with LabVIEW 8.20 -- it requires the previous version.  I apologize for the mistake!
