Looking for Compact Vision Solution for my application...

Hello,

I am looking for a compact vision solution from NI for my application as following:

Application1: Eye ball tracking for authentication. We need to authenticate persons before they enter into the machine room by tracking their eye balls. We are interested in NI CVS type of solution. We need suitable camera also to be suggested.

Application2: Machine Room Vision to know what is happennning in the room - similar to CCTV application. Online we need to monitor the machine room. We need very small camera for this.

We feel that NI CVS system with three ports should be capable of catering to these two applications. Kindly suggest us in selecting required NI hardware, software along with suitable cameras. Also these software and hardware should be compatible for Linux OS. The hardware and software should work in real-time mode and should have ethernet communication port to transfer the data to the main system which is linux based, when ever the main system asks it for the information.

Is there somebody to help me in this regard

Hello ADM Rao,

It does sound like the Compact Vision System would be a suitable setup for your applications.  For your image acquisition needs, you will need the IMAQdx driver which is included in the Vision Acquisition software package.  For image processing, you can use our Vision Development Module (which includes Vision, Vision Assistant, Vision Acquisition (our drivers), and Vision Runtime Engine) combined with LabVIEW RT or our standalone software Vision Builder for Automated Inspection (VBAI) which many customers use with CVS.  You can compare both image processing systems from our website:

NI Machine Vision Software

Unfortunately, our Vision software currently does not support Linux.  The link that follows is a page on our website which gives a listing of operating systems that are compatible with our software

Compatibility Information

Our standalone software VBAI (which many customers use with CVS) is also only supported for Windows XP/2000/NT as mentioned on the data sheet

The best option would be to use a Windows OS for the image acquisition and processing and then somehow transfer the data to your Linux system.

Please let us know if you have any further questions on this issue.

Thank you Mr. Vu D,

Also can you please suggest me suitable digital cameras as following:

Application 1: Suitable digital camera for CVS with normal speed
Application 2: Suitable digital camera for CVS which is of very small size and medium speed.

I will get back to you again, w.r.t. operating system support and any other  issues.

Please reply for this.

Hello ADM Rao,

I apologize for forgetting to address this in my previous post.  We have a page on our website which lists all of the cameras that are currently supported by our products.

Industrial Camera Advisor  and clicking on "List of current cameras supported" under Option 1.

From this page you can narrow down the search to Firewire cameras if you are wanting to use CVS.  From there, each camera will link to a specific product page that will provide its specifications.  In fact, any DCAM compliant Firewire camera can be used with our products, so there may be others that are more applicable for your system.  In the future, if you have new questions about a different aspect of your project, please create a new thread for each issue by selecting the appropriate product from our forums mainpage
