MAX detects NI-IMAQdx device, but only displays black screen

Hi,

I have a camera with S-video interface. I use EasyCap S-video to USB converter to acquire the images from my camera. MAX can detect the device under NI-IMAQdx (it also indicates that the device bus type is DirectShow). However when I try to grab images from the camera, MAX only shows black screen (buffer is running though). Windows Movie Maker can show images from the camera (thus I think there is no problem with the camera or with the converter driver?)

Could someone help me with this please?

It sounds obvious, but have you tried adjusting the acquisition parameters in MAX?  If MAX says it's acquiring but you only see a black screen, it sounds like the exposure time may be set too low.

Oh, it was because of the converter. It works in such funny way that Windows recognises it as an RCA interface device, and thus Windows Movie Maker could display images, but MAX couldn't.

Which camera are you using right now?

Hi,

We're also using this "EasyCap" converter. We're starting from scratch.

Would you mind sharing how you got up and running and any issues we should watch out for? Sounds like you had an issue with device drivers...

Thanks!

Dan

Many of those converter devices have multiple interfaces (Comosite, SVideo, etc). Even if they don't have the connectors externally they might have the implementation internally. On devices such as this, their driver usually exposes an attribute that IMAQdx calls "VideoSwitch::Source" that allows you to select which source to capture from.

Yes you are right, "s-video" mode is implemented internally and i would like to change to "composite"

I tested with the example "grab and attributes setup.vi"
but when I want to change "the video source switch" with  "composite" , It end up with the same error on MAX
"Ni-IMAQ dx (Hex oxBFF69011) Unable to get attribute"
?
it works well with VLC

i am sure we are not far from a solution

Has anybody solved this issue yet? I'm having the same problem here. Using MAX, I get error "Unable to get attribute", but camera works fine with other application.
