Hi there,
My setup is as follows:
OS: Windows XP SP2 Professional
Labview 8.5.1
Vision Development Module (I'm not sure of the version)
Vision Assistant 8.5
NI_IMAQ_USB_Installer_86.exe
Everything installed smoothly and I have the vision and motion menu when I open the toolbox with the right click of the mouse.
The problem is that I am missing the IMAQ-USB Menu in the Vision and Motion tab. When I install the NI_IMAQ_Installer_86.exe, it says installed sucessfully at C:\Program Files\National Instruments\Vision Assistant 8.0. Curiously, when I delete the Vision Assistant 8.0 folder and try to reinstall the .exe, no new Vision Assistant 8.0 folder reappears.
Can anyone figure out why the USB menu is missing?
If not, can you tell me if this installation sequence is correct and/if it is missing anything?
1. Install Labview 8.5.1
2. Install Vision Development Module
3. Install Vision Assistant 8.5
4. Install NI_IMAQ_Installer_86.exe
5. Run Labview

Hi Alan,
Check which version of VDM you have. It needs to be version 7.1 or later. Also, Vision Assistant is installed with VDM so you do not need to worry about installing that seperately.
When you say NI_IMAQ_Installer_86.exe and it installs successfully, I assume you actually mean NI_IMAQ_USB_Installer_86.exe
Go to Start >> Programs >>National Instruments >> Vision >> Documentation and check to see if the NI-IMAQ for USB Camera User Guide is there. Also, check to siee if imaqUSB folder is in C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 8.5\vi.lib

I do not know how to check the version of VDM. Can you advise?
I am pretty sure it is past 7.1 because it came in a package along with our Labview 8.5.1 site license.
Yes, I meant NI_IMAQ_USB_Installer_86.exe.
Yes the PDF file for USB Camera Guide is there. No the folder for the imaqUSB in vi.lib is not there. Finally, no, the menu for imaqUSB is not there

Hi Alan,
You can check the version of VDM in Measurement & Automation Explorer under My System >>Software in the tree or in NI License Manager. VDM is listed as "NI Vision."
Search your computer for imaqUSB. If you find it, try placing the folder in vi.lib manually. Restart LabVIEW and check if the palette appears.

Hi Kristen,
Thanks for the reply! I checked the license manager and I have Vision 8.5 installed (not "NI Vision" like you said, I assume that is what you meant?).
I have searched for imaqUSB and there is no such folder. However, I did find a folder with IMAQ for USB. Inside, it has only the install log and the NI-IMAQ_for_USB_Cameras_User_Guide.pdf
The install log contains the following data:

Please advise. We should have a service contract with NI since the University of Ottawa has a site license. I think this is an installation problem with Labview. Is it possible to get phone assistance regarding this problem?

Hi Alan,
If you have a service contract, feel free to call in. You can go to ni.com/ask and create a service request.
To be honest, this is not that common of an issue. This installation typically runs fairly smoothly, to the best of my knowledge. If you installed the required software and the ran the ni_imaq_usb_installer_86.exe. The imaqUSB folder should appear in the vi.lib folder of the version of LabVIEW you are using. Do you have multiple versions of LabVIEW on that computer? Check all the vi.lib folders. To make sure the functions appear in the pallete you will also need to make sure vision7.mnu is in the labview x.x\menus\Categories\VisionMotion directory.
Did you restart your computer after finishing the installations?

Hi Kristen,
No I do not have vision7.mnu. It kind of skips vision7 from 6 right to vision8
I have a copy of vision7.mnu file from somewhere on the forums. When I add it on, the USB menu does show BUT... nothing is inside. I also have the imaqUSB.llb and imaqUSB examples.llb files for Labview 8.6 but I only have Labview 8.5. If I place these files in a certain location, they will show up as well. HOWEVER, two problems occur. 1.) The functions do not run because they are labview 8.6. 2.) The functions show up as a menu under vision and motion --> menu functions rather than vision and motion --> usb --> menu functions

Hi Alan,
I am trying to get the correct version of the files to you. I'll post back soon.

Hi Alan,
Here is the llb from this location: C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 8.5\vi.lib. Put it in the same location and let me know if there's any problems.
