Missing image capture, etc IMAQ VIs

Solved!
Go to solution

Hi all,

I seem to be missing all of the "image capture" etc VI's from LabView, even with Vision and VAS installed.  No Vision Acquisition express either (only Vision Assistant express).  What am I missing??

Thanks in advance!

Noticed at work, where I have the same packages installed, but where the image capture VIs (IMAQdx, etc) are present, that the Vision Acquistion System is 2015 August F1, and at home I know it to be 2015 Feb.  Could this be why the VI's are not showing up at home?

Hi visionmotion,

I believe you are correct, the issue is that you have Vision Acquisition Software Feb. 2015 installed on the PC.  Vision Acquisition Software Feb. 2015 installs NI-IMAQ, NI-IMAQdx, and NI-IMAQ I/O 14.5 (see software release notes).  The 14.5 version of that software is not compatible with LabVIEW 2015, as per the compatibility chart found here

I hope this information helps!  Installing the newer software version should resolve the issue.

Correct-- it was version incompatibility.

That said, I am having the same issues with no motion VIs showing up after installing Labview Motion 15.0.  2 Machines, both with LV2015, fail to show motion VI's under the vision and motion toolbox after installation of Motion 15.0.  I've also tried installing NI Motion Assistant 2.8 to no avail.

Help!

PS I cant figure out the email I used to register my original "visionmotion" handle:(

Hi,

I was looking at the earlier snapshots you attached and it looks like you have LabVIEW 2015 64 bit installed. Are all of the installs of LabVIEW you're working with 64 bit versions? Unfortunately the NI-Motion driver is not supported by the 64 bit version of LabVIEW. You can find this here in the ReadMe for the NI-Motion drivers https://download.ni.com/support/softlib/Motion/NIMotion/NIMotion2015/NI-Motion%20ReadMe.htm

and in this compatibility chart https://www.ni.com/en/shop/software-portfolio/national-instruments-product-compatibility-for-microso...

Are you using an evalutation version of LabVIEW? Are there any specific reasons you wanted to use the 64 bit version instead of the 32 bit version? If not, it couldn't hurt to download the 32 bit version of LabVIEW 2015 and give that a try as you'll then be able to use the NI-Motion drivers.

Hi Da,

You nailed it.

Thanks, and no, no specific reason for using 64-bit other than my system is 64-bit and both Vision and LV were available in 64-bit.  Yup, mostly eval now, and my plan is to dwnload the 32-bit LV when I return home today.

While you're here, any idea whether the somewhat older PCI-7324 board I purchased on eBay (on it's way) will work with Motion 15.0?  Mentions support for 73xx, so my fingers are crossed.

Here's the thread I started (and ended) over in Motion to attract the right people for the Motion question: https://forums.ni.com/t5/Motion-Control-and-Motor-Drives/No-VI-s-in-Motion-PCI-7324/m-p/3232108/high...

Thanks again!

FYI... can't remember my login for visionmotion so I'm switching between my home and work NI accts for forum postings.

The 7324 board is pretty old and was End Of Lifed probably around the late 1990's. I'm not sure however as I can't find much about it in our system. I do know that it used the ValueMotion driver. All of these were replaced by NI-Motion in around 2002.

I found a case where a customer tried to use the 7324 with NI-Motion 8, and he was never able to detect the board in MAX because it requires the ValueMotion drivers. In short, I hate to say that it probably won't work. I would recommend getting one of the more recent Low Cost Stepper boards we offer.
