Object detection with simillar color of background

Hi

Do you have experinece in presence detection of objects which are in the same color as background?

I have to prepare inspection stand which can verify presence of red objects under red semi-transparent foil.

Is it even possibile using NI Vision Color manipulation functions or rather edge detecting functions? Maybe someone more experienced could help with lighting tips? Thankyou very much in advance!

a picture would make this easier, but what you can try:

Assuming RGB-Image:

Check, if a single color gives you a better view / betterseparation between the Object and the Background. (Vision Assistant->Color->Extract Color Pane)

Then try Thresholding.

Without a lot of details, this is a difficult inspection to help with.

Are they different shades of red?  Can you see the red part through the red film with the human eye?  If so, what makes it visible?  Could you filter out the red of the film and stil have the red of the part?

What is the distance between the part and the film relative to the size of the part?  Can you set up a light so it hits the part but not the film?

Could special cameras, such as infrared, help here?  Is there a wavelength that would pass through the red film and illuminate just the red part?

Do you have to look through the film?  Could you take a picture from an angle and see the part without the film?

Is the part thick enough to use other methods, like a laser trigger?  Must it be vision?
