Sending Image with Overlays to LabView from VBAI by using shared variables

Did you try using the Vision Builder API in LabVIEW ? It enables you to start a VBAI instance, load and run an inspection and also include VIs to get/set variables and get images as well.

I do not know how fast you want to update your images but my experience is that using shared variables to send images is not a reliable solution except if you update them slowly (1 or 2Hz maybe ?).

My attempt with SV was still in LV2009 times, but back then even 1Hz was not reliable.
