Slow Aquisition of Images from Firewire Camera

I'm Using an Allied Vision Technologies Firewire Camera, Model Marlin F-145B2.
I'm providing an external trigger to the camera and am using the code as provided in the National Instrument IEEE 1394 samples provided for Visual Basic however its taking on average 1 sec to return an image, even though the frame rate of the camera is set to 7.5 f/sec.

Shouldn't this happening a lot quicker?

i am also using a firewire camera. the software cd that came with mine included a firewire fix for windows xp sp2 that you're supposed to use if you're experiencing problems with slow transfer speeds. you might want to contact your manufacturer and see if they have something similar. if all else fails, im sure the fix is a generic one and you can probably find details by googling

Hi,

Following what has been mentioned, I am wondering if this microsoft knowledge base reply might help you to solve your problem

------------------------------------------
Update for Windows XP (KB885222)
------------------------------------------

After you install Windows XP Service Pack 2, some 1394 devices (such as digital cameras that use S400 speed) may not perform as expected.

Quick Info
File Name:
WindowsXP-KB885222-v2-x86-ENU.exe

Download Size:
509 KB

Date Published:
3/30/2005

Version:
885222
------------------------------------------------

You can try to download the file on microsoft web site. However, I am not too sure if it would affect any other NI stuff you might have like on your PC like MAX. For me, it seems to be okay. Perhaps you can try it to see whether the fix can solve your problem and improve the acquisition rate. If yes, do share the result with us!!
