Hi everybody,
I'm using VBAI 3.6.1 and a SmartCamera 1744. At the end of an inspection I want to log the results into a text file on the local drive of the SmartCamera and then download this log file via FTP access from the host PC.
My problem is: This logfile is not created! I tested all kinds of variants (log always, log only when inspection fails, text file, csv file, log only parts of the measurement, log all, etc.), and check if a file has been created using a FTP client, but the log file is never created! I also get no error messages from VBAI.
What is wrong ?
In the attachment you find the corresponding VBAI inspection file I used for testing, and some screenshots I captured during test.
Hope someone can help me
Greetings from Berlin

Hi again,
some new facts I found out a few minutes ago: The log file is created well if I perform the inspection controlled via ActiveX (I use LabVIEW 7.1.1 for it), but it is still NOT created when using VBAI itself...
Can someone explain that?

Hi Carsten,
I've tried logging to the smart camery I have available, and I can not reproduce the error (but I could not loud your attached file, becaue it was not compatible with my camera).
My camera (a 1742) writes without anny problems to the internal drive.
I've heard of some issues when writing into the root directory (c:\) but obviously, you don't do this.
Did you disconnect any incoming FTP connection to the camera before starten the inspection? Because I had an error saying the folder is write protectet...
Maybe as a temporary workaround you could try to save the files over network onto a FTP server.
Here is a forums entry which descusses issues about FTP.

Please post an update on the issue.
With kind regards

Hi Carsten,
I managed to get your VBAI Project on my camera running. It works fine.
Maybe you want to try to rewrite the whole project, just to make sure there are no old settings left somewhere.
What also could happen is, the camera only starts writing the file after the first completed inspection. With your very high exposure time I could imagine that you stop the program to quickly and therefore not data is written.
With kind regards
Martin

Hi Martin,
I don't think so. I execute the inspection once ("Run State Once" button) or several times ("Run State In Loop" button) in VBAI itself, and no result file is create. When I execute the same inspection remotely using ActiveX, everything is fine.

Hi Carsten,
ok the next thing you could check is the registration status of your vision software. Sometimes when you run the VBAI Code through the software on your pc it behaves differently then when on runtime engine.
could you check in the NI license manager the status of the 3 vision products? (Vision Development, VBAI and the VBAI Runtime).

Hi Martin,
- I didn't install the vision development, because I work with LabVIEW 7.1.1. Vision development requires LabVIEW 8.2 or newer, isn't it?
- VBAI 3.6 (I returned to 3.6; it seemed that VBAI 3.6.1 boots much slower on my SmartCamera ) "Full-Featured for NI 17xx smart camera" is green.
- The VBAI runtime is not activated. Is that necessary?

Hi Carsten,
- the Vision Development Module 8.6 supports also LabView 7.1
(taken from the readme: http://ftp.ni.com/support/softlib/vision/Vision%20Development%20Module/8.6.0/readme.html)
"NI Vision 8.6 supports LabVIEW 7.1, 8.2, 8.5, and 8.6, Visual Studio 6.0 or later, and LabWindows™/CVI™ 7.0 or later.[...]"
- Do you have the chance to run an inspection on a computer with activated VBAI Runtime?

Hi Martin,
sorry, I mixed something up. Together with the SmartCamera I got two CDs: NI Vision Builder for Automated Inspection 3.6 (VBAI) and NI Vision Acquisition 8.6. The VBAI is limited to be used only with SmartCameras, and there is a label on the VBAI CD cover: "Important note: If you are using VBAI to develop applications, install only the contents of this CD", so I did not install the NI Vision Acquisition, because I create the inspections with VBAI.
But I assume you mean something completely different with the Vision Development Module 8.6, and if so, I didn't purchase it.
I will activate the runtime on the PC I installed VBAI and see what will happen.
See you
Carsten

Hi again,
I tried to activate the run-time with the S/N I purchased with the NI SmartCamera, but it fails. So I have no chance to test the behaviour of VBAI with activated run-time.
