Is the DALSA's Spyder GigE camera supported by NI?

Hello,

Currently National Instruments do not have support for GigE cameras. However, National Instruments is evaluating the need to add GigE support but I cannot estimate the time frame for that.

Best regards,

Hello Vesa!

Thank you for your ansewer. I'am still quite confused, because in the Products&Services page of Vision Acquisition Software there are following lines:

  • Works with any NI frame grabber, IIDC-compliant FireWire camera, or GigE Vision camera
  • Included with all NI Vision frame grabbers and IEEE 1394 and Gigabit Ethernet interface devices
  • Meaning that..???

    Best regards

    Hi,

I am sorry that you feel confused. I meant that we don't have support for the particular Dalsa GigE model. All supported models of Dalsa are listed here:

    ftp://ftp.ni.com/support/imaq/camera_support/camera_files/digital/dalsa/

Gigabit Ethernet is supported by the driver. However, you still need a camera configuration file for the camera, and I cannot provide that for you. So answer is Dalsa GigE support is not currently available.

    Best regards,

National Instrument now offers support for GigE Vision cameras with Vision Acquisition Software 8.2.1 available at:

I am working with a Spyder GigE Camera (Dalsa).  I downloaded the new version of Vision Acquisition.  It does not have a Camera definition file for the Gige.  I tried using the Camera Advisor on the NI site.  It reports that this camera is not supported.

    Hi Gretchen,

We have tested the Dalsa Spyder and it should be supported by IMAQdx. Since the GigE Vision standard is relatively new the Camera Advisor web page has not been updated with many of the newer GigE cameras that are just entering the market. As time goes on and more cameras can be thoroughly tested they will be added to that site. As long as a camera supports the GigE Vision 1.0 specification it should work correctly. You should insure you have the latest firmware for your camera as manufacturers have been continuously improving interoperability.

Note that there are no "Camera Definition" files for IMAQdx (for both IEEE-1394 cameras and GigE cameras) as the cameras self-describe themselves. Exisiting camera definition files are used for our NI-IMAQ driver that is used with our framegrabber cards (supporting analog cameras, camera link, and more).

    Hope this helps,

    Eric,

Thanks for your help.  I have contacted Dalsa, and they have sent me a set of Labview VIs that will work with the Spyder Gige camera.  However, they were written in Labview 8.0, and I have Labview 7.1.  If I email them to you, can you convert them to 7.1?
