Vision Assistant > Labview ploblem EMERGENCY!

Hi guangli,

Using Vision Acquisition Software 2009 or later, you should be able to use a USB camera in Vision Assistant as you would any other camera because USB cameras are supported in those versions.  Choose the option that says Acquire Image (IEEE1394 or GigE).  USB cameras use the same driver as these.  Also, you do not need to save the image in order to process it.

What do you mean by new script?

Are you using the Vision Assistant Express VI? If so, you will need to use the Vision Acquisition Express VI first and wire the Image wire to the Vision Assistant Express VI.

I hope this helps!

Hi, Kristen,

Thank you!

You mean Vision Acquisition Software cannot be used if I only have USB cam? That may be why it doesn't work after I install Vision Acquisition 2009. Actually, I may not buy the new hardware and camera package. My professor already bought me 4 DC servo motor, their driver and software. He do not want to buy the new package. In fact, the project was builded there.

Can we use IMAQ USB to get what I said before? Would you please help me to check my code in last post?

About the new script in your last post, I mean there is a new script window on the bottom of Vision assitant interface.

Hi guangli,

When you install Vision Acquisition Software you install 3 vision hardware drivers:  IMAQ, IMAQdx, and IMAQ I/O.  USB cameras are fully supported by IMAQdx 3.4 or later- in other words if you are using a USB camera with LabVIEW, install IMAQdx and you will be able to see the camera in Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX).  To use the USB camera in Vision Assistant, click on the acquire from GigE or IEEE1394 camera (they use IMAQdx too) and you will be able to acquire from the USB camera in Vision Assistant.

ni_imaq_usb_installer_86 (1).exe is the unsupported version that was posted on our website before USB camera support was added to IMAQdx.  This early version should work, but IMAQdx works better.

I am not sure where the servo motor discussion came from - try the motion forum.

Hi, Kristen H.

I'm glad to know these information. I try to uninstall vision8.6 fro LV8.6 in my PC and install Vision Acquisition software. I didn't install the drivers. So, that may be the reason why I cannot see the IMAQ USB. Anyway, I know this works. And I'm getting my code also in LV 8.6 and IMAQ USB in Vision 8.6 now.

Thank you!

Hi NuMetal,

I added the VI I suggested to the VI you posted and was able to get the same centroid position in cm as Vision Assistant.  Take a look at the screen shots below.  Let me know if this is what you were looking for.

Hi, Kristen,
I try this VI in my project. I am able to get the Pixels rather than real world coordinates. Would you help me take a quick look at my code?
Thank you very much!

Hi, Kristen H.

How are you recently?

I got back my PC with window 7. I'm able to install LV2009 with windows 7. And kind of download all the packages you mentioned. I'm sure if LV 2009 works well with window 9 since LV 2009 didn't mention it. If LV09 works with Windows 7, can I see the vi categories about IMAQ USB in functions patellete?  I couldn't them now. I'm not check if I can see camera in MAX yet. Feel free to give a hand!

Thank you!

Hi guangli,

LV 2009 does support windows 7.  Check out this page for National Instruments compatibility with Windows 7.  To use the USB camera, install Vision Acquistion Software 2009 and use IMAQdx functions for the USB camera.  There is not a seperate pallete for USB devices specifically- IMAQdx can be used with the USB devices. Good luck!
