We are looking to build a new Vision Testing system and have an existing IDS uEye camera ( PN UI-1465LE). will this Camera be compatable?

Hi,
I looked at the documentation of the camera and it comes with a DirectShow driver, so you should be able to acquire images with NI-IMAQdx and Vision Builder AI. If you want to double check before buying, you can download an evaluation version of Vision Acquisition software from here:
http://joule.ni.com/nidu/cds/view/p/id/1393/lang/en
and try to acquire images with Measurement and Automation Explorer.
Hope this helps,

Hi Bigsee,
Vision Builder AI when used with Vision Acquisition 2009 or later does include support for cameras that support DirectShow. The IDS uEye does have DirectShow drivers so you should be able to get this to work.
However, there are a few things I must warn you about. Firstly, DirectShow does not have triggering capability, so you can likely only run the uEye in free-running mode. Also, the IDS uEye driver installation has sometimes been painful to get properly installed on systems (at least we've seen it here trying to test their cameras) for various reasons. Maybe I've just had bad luck though... 🙂

The IDS uEye cameras are DirectShow compatible and thus can work with NI-IMAQ and Vision Builder. Warn you that not all the features of the camera can be accessed via IMAQ such as pixel clock and frame rate (at least I could not find out how to control them from IMAQ) as well as color mode and some of the others, which is a shame. Hope IDS will fix this in the future, but for now this is a significant issue

New IDS XS camera with drivers 4.30 has problems in MAX and do not work with IMAQ VIs.
MAX returns error 0xBFF69011 "Unable to get attribute"
I will let you know about solution.

After reviews:
IDS XS camera with USB interface has two models: UI-1008XS with SONY sensor and new UI-1005XS with Aptina sensor.
UI-1008XS, drivers 4.22 works with IMAQdx, UI-1005XS requirere drivers 4.30 whitch drivers are unreadable for IMAQdx.
Sollution for new XS camera is ActiveX component, if renquired is only image acquisition.
