exe built with a previous version of IMAQ doesn't work with new IMAQ unless VISION run-time engine is installed

I have a bunch of various exe's (built using LV8.5 and IMAQ 3.8) that work using IMAQ 3.8 but don't work when using later versions of IMAQ (such as 4.3 and 4.4).

The error reported is "VI has an error of type 204E340.  The full development version of LabVIEW is required to fix the errors.".  (The exe front panel also has a broken run arrow at the top.)

I find that if I install the VISION run-time engine on these computers, the exe then works.  It seems like some of the functionality that used to exist with IMAQ now needs VISION in order to work.

I know these exe's used to work because they are used extensively at this facility.

What should I do about this issue?

Thanks,

Bruce

Thanks, but I'm wondering why I have trouble installing this program all of a sudden.  My exe (same installer) worked with IMAQ 3.8 without the Vision run-time engine installed before.  Now with IMAQ 4.4 I have this error when installing onto new computers (they have NI framegrabber boards in them so the VAS/IMAQ licensing should be okay).

Using VirtualBox I was able to get a clean XP install and install IMAQ 3.8 and then my installer, which works fine (as a baseline).  Then I uninstalled my program and then installed IMAQ 4.1, then reinstalled my program using the installer and that worked fine.  I repeated the process for IMAQ 4.3 and then installed my program and now my program no longer works.  IMAQ 4.4 also shows this problem.

What's going on?

Thanks,

Bruce

Hi Bruce,

We're looking into this. The behavior you are seeing is not expected. To clarify, do you just have to install the runtime-engine or does it need to be activated as well?

Another item that could help speed this up is if you might be able to send us your built app to help look into why it is triggering the invalid licensing message. Would you be able to open a support ticket with our Application Engineers to help facilitate this?

Thanks,

Eric

If I install the Vision run-time engine using evaluation it seems like it works fine and doesn't even remind me to activate.  My program calculates the temporal noise for all of the preset settings of the camera and can save images.

I tried to attach the installer as a zip file and it wouldn't accept it.  I'll look into getting in touch with an Applications engineer.

Thanks,

Bruce

I'm trying to get a hold of NI support but I just realized my SSP just expired May 31, 2010.  I have to contact my IT department to see if they renewed and didn't install the license file on our server yet.

Hi Bruce,

If you are willing you could upload the app onto ftp://ftp.ni.com/incoming and reply with the file name you placed it there. This directory is write-only to the outside world.

I tried to upload the file to the incoming FTP site but my company doesn't let me upload to FTP sites.  It's restricted by our proxy server.  I put in an IT request to upload the file.   I'll let you know when it is uploaded.

Thanks,

Bruce

My IT administrator put the file up under ftp://ftp.ni.com/incoming/NoiseInstall.zip but he said there was some sort of error.  As a test he put up the file Noise Tool.ini which he says went through okay.  Anyway, I'm a little confused as to if the file got there or not.
