Hi,
Have you tried using "IMAQ Find Straight Edges 3.vi" ("caliper" palette under LabVIEW or "Advanced straight edges" in Vision Assistant) ?
It should allow you to detect each book vertical border.
Select a rectangular ROI, in the middle of the image (above the books calls numbers), then, search for vertical straight edges using "Left To Right direction".
Please see screen capture from Vision Assistant, attached herewith.

Hello,
You can use "IMAQ Extract.vi" in the "Vision utilities"=>"Image Manipulation" palette, in order to extract a rectangular region from an image.
