ieee1394 MAX time-out error

Hi,

I am using an AVT Marlin F131B IEEE-1394 camera and I am having trouble getting it to work properly. I am using it in video mode 0 format 7 1280x1024 using MAX 3.1.1.3003 and IMAQ for 1394 v2.0.0.

When I first started MAX I got a live image (although the image quality was very poor with a lot of fixed pattern noise). The packet size was set to 4 and when I tried to stop the grab I got the following error:

0xBFF68002 Timeout

I have tried many different packet sizes (4096, 2048, 1024, 256, 4) and all I get is, eventually, the same timout error and no live image.

If I restart MAX and try to grab an image I just get a black screen.

Any ideas anyone?

Hello Peter,

Based on what you have described, it sounds as if the camera file for your 1394 camera may have bad values assigned for some of the camera attributes.  When you modify the settings, do you save them before trying to acquire?  The process of saving modifies the camera file for your camera, thus enabling the changes that you have made.

Also, try disconnecting your camera and then navigating to C:\Program Files\National Instruments\NI-IMAQ for IEEE-1394\Data.  Delete the contents of this folder.  Close the browser window and reconnect your camera to your PC.  Then try a snap or grab in MAX.  Has the image obtained by your camera improved?

Hi Scott,

I found that it was defaulting to a packet size of 4 and a timeout of 0. Once I changed these to 4096 and 1000 resp. it worked fine.

Cheers,

Peter
