I checked the manual, and 8 tap 8 bits is one of the valid configurations. It is very difficult to figure out why it isn't working.
Did you end up getting a second cable so you have the full camera configuration? If you don't have the second cable that could be your problem.
Posting an image when it is pointed at the light would be most useful.
