why it keeps on asking "NI LabVIEW 8.5.1" distribution when building installer?

Hi All,

I am trying to build an installer for one image processing application, which uses IMAQdx.  For additional installers, I select

NI LabVIEW Run-Time Engine 8.5.1
NI Vision Run-Time Engine 8.5
NI-IMAQdx 3.1.2
NI-VISA Runtime 4.3

When building, it keeps on asking  "NI LabVIEW 8.5.1" distribution even though I put the CD into CD room, saying it needs to copy a component installed or updated by the distribution to continue building the installer.

If I don't select NI-IMAQdx 3.1.2, it is OK. BUT, I do need it.

By the way, I am using windowXP.

Why?

Thanks a lot for any help.

Hi, Anne,

when you will be asked next time, just place a checkmark in the Cache component from this distribution checkbox in the Locate Distribution dialog box to enable caching, then you will be never prompted about this in a future.

refer to doc Caching Installer Distribution Components (Windows)

Thank you.  I did that.

The problem is even for the first time, it won't continue, just stuck there, keeps on asking.

Well, another suggestion: Go to Installer Properties, then select Additional Installers, and check Installer Source location for each installer included into distribution. Normally each cached installer should be marked as Local Cache in the Distribution Title indicator. In worst case you can make a copy of your CD on your hard drive, then change installer source location manually.

I'm having the same problem.   When building my installer I get "Locate the "NI LabVIEW 8.5.1" distribution...." I insert the CD, click ok, and get the same message.  This has brought me to a standstill.   Any suggestions?

Hey tj robert,

The source files for LabVIEW must be specified when the window pops up and calls for them during the installer build. You should copy these files to your hard drive before beginning the installer build. Once they are copied from the LabVIEW disc, begin the installer build and point to them to the location on your hard drive during the installer build.

This KnowledgeBase article explains why missing distribution errors (AKA source distribution errors) occur. This KnowledgeBase article explains how to stop the errors.

I hope this helps 🙂

Those links did not help

I copied the entire LabVIEW CD to my harddrive and when prompted by the install builder I point to it.  It again says that it's not the right location and reprompts me.

As for changing the Installer Source Location in the additional installers tab, I get an error that it has already been cached and I can't change it.

Is there a way to clear out the cache so that the right components can be selected. It looks an awful lot like the mechansm to serch for the right bits is confused. This needs to be fixed regardless. Visual Studion always builds correctly or tells me what's wrong. The LabVIEW error messages I've been getting are worthless.

Are you all using the NI-IMAQ or Vision Run-Time installers in your executable builds? This software installer requires activation.

If you are not using the NI-IMAQ or Vision Run-Time installers, have a look at the links in my previous post.

Also have a look at this forum post.

Note that the exact build of the software (ex: DAQmx 8.6.0f6) must match what you have built in your executable and what you are pointing to during the installer build. Verify this version in the Measurement & Automation Explorer under the Software tree.

I hope this helps! 🙂

I finally got the installer built.  I uninstalled and reinstalled LV 8.5.1 and that didn't help.  I did the same with DAQmx and that didn't help.

Finally, I uninstalled all NI software (including LV 8.5.1, LV 7.1, DAQ, MAX, etc...) then reinstalled LV 8.5.1 and DAQ.   The installer then built with no problems.
