Change Primary Address GPIB Interface on Real Time Target PXI

Hi, I'm Simone
I've a simple little question, someone can help me??
I've try to find answer by I don't find a solution in the documentation.
My system is based on a Real Time target NI PXI-8196, and I work with LabView 8.0.1; i need to change the primary address of GPIB embedded interface on real time target but I don't know how. I'm sure that it's probabily very simple but..... I try to change GPIB.INI configuration file on real time target system directory but don't see any change....
Thanks

Is there any specific reason you are willing to change the PAD of your GPIB interface?
Usually the GPIB controller is set to PAD=0. This is why I am asking.

let me know,

Hi AlessioD,
my system works correctly with PAD 0 for the controller but i think that is important to understand how manage the GPIB interface and the change of the primary address of the contoller is sure a primary goal.
Thanks

I have tried to change the GPIB.INI file on the RT target. After modifying the PAD parameter from 0 to 1 for example, I saved the ini file on my local machine and then FTPed it back to the controller and rebooted.

I checked the PAD assigned to the GPIB interface with the attached VI and everything seems to work.

Could you try it out?

Thanks of your support Alessio,

I have tried your VI but on the real time target return an error. I don't know why.

When I tried to change the GPIB.INI file on the RT target and use the notebook with PCI-GPIB+ and GPIB-Spy, last day,

the primary address don't change but i don't remember if i've reboot the contoller (i think yes, but i don't sure and now i don't have the notebook to retry!!).

Thanks, and sorry for my english!

Simone

From MAX>>Tools>>NI-VISA>>Interactive Control (see picture 1) you should query for VISA resources on the following target

visa://ip_address_pxi/?*

From the list select the GPIBn::INTFC which is the integrated GPIB board on the 8196 and double click on it to open a visa session (picture 2).

You should be able to get the value for the GPIB Primary Address

Good Alessio,
now I see the GPIB0::INTFC but, even if with the Interactive Control seems to work correctly, but
when I modified the GPIB.INI on real time target (PAD=1 on PCI-GPIB interface) and reboot the 8196, I try to read
the primary address and the interactive control show "0".

Why in the VISA constan name (click on refresh) I see only the GPIB Visa Alias of the GPIB on board interface
that I have set on MAX? , for try I've to write himself the "GPIB0::INTFC" string inside VISA resource name.
And the Property Node of GPIB Instruments, the member Primary Address is only read, it's impossible to set at run time ?

Bye Simone
