post new thread

Hi all,
This is a beginner's salute to you all who have mastered/mastering NI applications. I recently acquired a NI USB 6221 DAQ for my measurement purpose with analog input and output terminals. I do not know simply how to send a data byte to the analog output terminals from LABVIEW 8.2 and how to rea
d a data byte from the analog input terminals into LABVIEW 8.2. I am able to communicate data from the MAX window.  I do not know if I must make use of LABVIEW Signal Express? Please do not ignore this beginner's basic doubt. Expecting your valuable replies.

Thank you
JP

First, you posted to the Measure forum. Measure is old product from NI. It is an add-in to Excel. You should post questions about LabVIEW to the LabVIEW board, questions about DAQ to the Multifunction DAQ board, and if you want to use Signal Express, use the Signal Express Board.

In your case, since you have LabVIEW, you don't need to use Signal Express. You would use Signal Express instead of LabVIEW. The simplest thing for you to use in LabVIEW is the DAQ Assistant. It's on your Measurement I/O>DAQmx palette. Put in on your block diagram and a wizard will pop-up that will walk you through the process of acquiring and writing data.

You mention a 'data byte'. Bytes usually refer to digital read/writes.

p.s. In the future, when you do post new questions to the correct board, try to use a more descriptive subject than just 'Post new thread'.

Dear Knutson,
You had suggested me to make use of the DAQmx palette in the Measurement IO module. But I find that the Measurement IO module is just empty and does not have a single object in it. Can it be done in any other way or is it because I'm using an Evaluation version of Labview? Is it true that the Evaluation version has any constraint on accessing the AI and AO terminals? Please do send in your valuable response.

The evaluation version of LabVIEW is exactly like the purchased version. The only limitation is that it is only good for 30 days. Since it has been almost that long since your first post, you don't have much time left.

If your DAQmx palette is empty, it's could be because you did not install DAQmx or you installed DAQmx before you installed LabVIEW. Try re-installing DAQmx from the CD you got with the DAQ board or get the latest from http://joule.ni.com/nidu/cds/view/p/id/833/lang/en.
