GPIB-USB-HS won't install

This might not be the right board for this question, but I don't see any board for hardware problems.

I am having trouble installing a GPIB-USB-HS device. When I plug it in to the computer, it goes through the new hardware wizard, but eventually says that the software can't be found to install the device. I am not able to connect to the device using the VISA Interactive Control. When I get properties for the device in the Device Manager, it says "The drivers for this device are note installed. (Code 28). To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver".

Things I've tried:

* Reinstall driver from Device Manager

* Reboot the computer

* Uninstalled and re-installed VISA (visa462full.exe).

* Uninstalled (via the Device Manager) the usb device and re-plugged it in

The GPIB-USB device works without problems on another PC in my lab.

Both PCs have WinXP.

Does anybody have any suggestions what could be wrong here?

To follow up, I've now also tried updating to VISA 5.1.1 (I didn't see at first that this still supports XP).

Still can't successfully plug in the GPIB-USB and still can't communicate in VISA Interactive Control.

Hey Matt,

You can find the Most Active Hardware Boards here, this is the Most Active Software Boards.  Your question may be answered a little more efficiently there, and it should help people with similar problems in the future look in the right place.

And something they may ask on the other board, are you referring to the NI-VISA driver?  If so, where are you getting it?

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. I found the solution. The real problem was I had installed NI-VISA, but hadn't installed NI-488.
