Install Measurement Studio 7 with C# 2005

The brain dead installer insists that I have 2003 and there is no button to allow you to ignore this and continue. I REALLY hate installation programs that try and be too smart.

Is there a way around this?

You can install the .NET class libraries (UI, analysis, datasocket,etc.). You can not install C++ support or any integration support. This is not a brain dead installer it is a smart installer because those tools will not work inside the yet to be unreleased VS .NET 2005. The integration needs to be signed by Microsoft for the newer product and installed into the newer product correctly or else you would never be able to use the tools and they would crash Visual Studio.

Try deselecting anything that states "C++" (MFC 7.1 which will not work with Visual C++ 2005) and "integration" in the features listed. This should allow you to install the assemblies. You will have to browse for each cless when "Adding a Reference" because we will not be integrated into Visu
al Studio 2005. This is by Microsoft's design and not ours, that is how we are able to integrate into the compiler.

Thanks Jeff.

When you say install the .NET class libraries, is that the same as the ocx's? I've already got them installed in Borland C++ and working or is there another step I need to do?

Is there a beta program or anything that I can get involved in that has the full integration? I've been on these before.

Where will I have to look for the classes when I do the add reference?

(I'm just moving from Borland to Microsoft, so havn't done much C# yet).

Our assemblies are components, but they are in the form of DLLs. You can find them in the installed location (usually something like [Program Files]\National Instruments\MeasurementStudio unless you changed it at install time). They will be there under DotNET\Assemblies.

For the UI components you will need to also add them to your toolbox. You do this by right clicking on the toolbox and selecting Add... Then you browse to the NationalInstruments.UI.WindowsForms.dll and this will allow you to use our UI components.

We do not currently have a Beta for the VS 2005 support. VS 2005 is not slated to release from Microsoft until next year.
