Legacy Hardware Support

Hi, we currently use LabVIEW to interact with our NI hardware but we're looking to switch over to Visual Studio. What kind of legacy hardware support can I expect? We have some FP-1000 and FP-1001 modules that we would need to be able to communicate with.

NI FP-1001

This hardware was discontinued about 4 years ago. What are our options? Does measurement studio support older hardware? Thanks!

Hello LDDMAN,

Regarding your questions about FieldPoint compatibility with text-based programming languages like Visual Studio, I would like to direct you to the following KnowledgeBase articles.

Getting Started with FieldPoint Programming Using LabWindows™/CVI

https://knowledge.ni.com/KnowledgeArticleDetails?id=kA00Z0000019QqoSAE&l=en-US

The newest versions of the NI-FieldPoint driver provide support for use with LabWindows/CVI. It seems like using LabWindows/CVI would allow you to use the latest drivers with the latest bug fixes, patches, etc. The only other option available seems to be to use Miocrosoft Visual C++ 6.0

The only other option available seems to be to use Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0 and/or Visual C++ .NET; I have included documentation below that discusses this possibility.

It is very important to note that the FieldPoint Measurement Studio 7.0 Visual C++ API has been obsoleted, and that the last version of the NI-FieldPoint driver that provides support for this API is NI-FieldPoint 4.0

Generally, I suggest using LabWindows/CVI as the programming environment because it is the only text-based programming environment that is supported by the newest versions of the NI-FieldPoint driver. Older versions of the FieldPoint driver are no longer available online.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions. Unfortunately, it seems like there is not much text-based support for your FieldPoint hardware considering that it is obsolete.

Thanks for the reply. I am going to test using LabWindows/CVI with these old field point modules and see what happens. I'll be sure to come back to this post aftewards and provide an update. Thanks again.
