License for deploying my applications

Suppose I develop an application using the components within measurement studio for .NET (e.g. the graph components.)

Will I be able to freely distribute my application along with any measurement studio components that are necessary in order to allow the application to function.

I have seen the license at "http://www.ni.com/legal/license/", but notice that it refers rather vaguely to "runtime engines for the software" and "driver interface software" without giving any real clue as to whether these will cover my needs in this particular case.

I am not a lawyer so the clearer you could make a reply the better.

Hello

You can freely distribute applications that use the Measurement Studio user interface components without requiring an aditional license for each machine that you deploy the application to. However, there are certain application software packages ( see section 12B in the legal license document for the list) that require the use of an additional run time license.

Most hardware drivers allow you to redistribute your application freely as well. An example would be NI-DAQ. But other drivers like NI-VISA for example, requires you to have NI hardware or be using serial on the machine where you are distributing the application to. So you need to make sure you refer to license agreement for the specific drivers you are using in your application.

Are
you using any hardware drivers (DAQ, VISA, GPIB)in your application? Or just the user interface controls?

Hi Bilai,

We are only planning to use the user interface controls.

We will write our own code to communicate with our hardware.

Thanks,

Chris

In that case, you should be able to distribute your application without requiring additional run time licenses.

I have the same question but more. We have 2 NI MeasurementStudio7 Enterprise licenses and wish to deploy our application. How can this be accomplished, since the NiGraph and other controls require some extra OCX files and whatnot. Please tell me step-by-step which files to include and how to set it up on a new machine. I looked at the NI help and it mentions Merge Modules, but I cannot use them. If there is someone out there who can tell me how this can be done (even without installshield) I would be rather grateful (since we paid alot of money to NI for this package and cannot distribute the application we wrote, since we do not know which components are required and how to set these up on a new machine)

Thanks,
Miklos
