Slider width

In the troubleshooting notes of the previously linked article, it discusses a few options. The simplest seems to be to download the application attached here and run the application to acquire the license key string.

I'm seeing this problem witht he slider also, and I don't see that it is properly addressed in this thread.   If I programmatically change the range of a slider (vertical slider), why should the slider width change?  I can almost understand why the height of a vertical slider would change when the range changes, but not the width.

The suggestion to change the width programmatically seems like a workaround.
