Why does it take a long time to install NI Device Divers?

I am totally flabbergasted by the time it takes to install NI Developer Suite 2012  from DVD  on a Core i7 computer?

It took hours to load the 'NI Device drivers' on a decent desktop computer.  It is really painful especially considering the fact that I was only trying to upgrade an installation using the latest set of media disks.

Does anyone know the reason?

Thanks.

There are A LOT of drivers on the driver DVD. Some of them are quick to install like 488.2, but others take awhile like DAQmx. It's a matter of how large the drive is. Most likely you do not need all of the drivers for your development project. I would recommend only installing the drivers you use. There are some dependency relationships between drivers, but the driver DVD installer will let you know in those situations.

I am comparing it with the time it takes to install other major software packages like Oracle Datbase 11g, SQL Server 2008, Visual Studio 2010,  Solid Works 2012 etc, NI Developer Suite installation took the longest amount of time.

I do feel NI should look into improving the installation experience, at least with the version upgrades.
Thanks for you reply.

LabVIEW 2012 upgrade installation experience was the worst ever. Device Drivers took a long time to finish. Multiple add-ons could not be installed because of missing files. Real time/ FPGA installation was looking for a DVD that did not come with the SP2 upgrade CDs. I am very much disappointed.

I'm not sure what you are talking about. I have the add-on FPGA module and it comes as a separate disk. You may want to try to uninstall what you have and re-install it because it sounds like the update got confused somewhere.
