ComponentWorks error message in Measurement & Automation Explorer v4.0

When selecting the camera configuration file under devices and hardware a message pops up in the corner regarding ComponentWorks.

"This program contains ComponentWorks evaluation-only controls which will stop functioning after 5 minutes of execution time.  To order a development version of ComponentWorks, contact your local NI branch office"

as well as a dialog with the title "cwimaq" and it has a message:

"Error loading control.  A newer version is needed.  The default settings for the control will be used".

This comes from a new installation of Vision Acquisition 8.0 software with CD and serial number provided.  I have attempted a re-install but the same messages appear.  Only installed M&A v4.0 and IMAQ 3.5.1 plus any required modules.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Mike

Do any of the error messages specify a filename?  I have seen this happen with other test panels in MAX, but not imaq specifically.  I searched the KnowledgeBases here for "cwui.ocx", which was the file I had problems with, and found the following KnowledgeBase about the issue.

NI-CAN Test Panels Display Error Messages About cwui.ocx

I don't know if this is the same file you are having trouble with, or if this will help with the imaq problem, but it is worth looking into.

Hey Mike,

You said that you only installed IMAQ 3.5.1 plus any required modules. What are these other required modules that you mentioned? Also, the ComponentWorks stuff usually occurs when you are using the driver with VB or C. What programming language are you using for your application? Also, did you make sure to uninstall any previous versions of the NI-IMAQ driver before installing the 3.5.1 version? One more thing, the machine you installed the IMAQ driver on, is it going to be a development machine or are you trying to deploy an application to it? Last, have you tried to uninstall both the Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX) and the NI-IMAQ driver, or did you just reinstall the IMAQ driver? Try to uninstall MAX as well and see if that helps.

I hope this helps. Please keep us updated on how things turn out. Thanks, and have a great day.

DJ L.

DJ L.,

I guess what I mean is that when you install NI-IMAQ, you also get Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX), NI-PAL, LabView Run-time, documentation, and MSVC examples.  Not installing any other options of the Vision Acq 8.0.

The error actually happens when I run MAX.  My application (VC++) seems to run fine but I occasionally use MAX to perform a quick check to verify the acquisition process is functioning.  This is just a behavior I have never seen with the MAX program.

I have done an uninstall/reinstall (all components) twice but the message still comes up.

This machine will be for deployment for demo purposes but there will probably be some development as well.

Thanks again,

Mike

Hey Mike,

Check out the following KnowledgeBase document called ActiveX Controls Evaluation Message Box Appears after Installing Measurement Studio. This document gives a list of controls.  IMAQ is not listed, but this KB should also fix the error that you are seeing even for the IMAQ controls. Go ahead and download the .zip file and run it, and follow the instructions in the KB. Please let me know if this helps resolve the error that you are seeing. Thanks, and I hope to hear from you soon.

Regards,
DJ L.

Hey Mike,

There are some component works UI pieces in MAX. It is possible that part of your install is acting up. One suggestion is to remove cwui.* from the system32 folder. Chances are, these components aren't get removed during your uninstall. They are the ones responsible for the UI objects loaded in MAX. Also, you might want to try to download the driver off of our Drivers and Updates page, instead of using your disk. Try this out and let me know how things work out. Thanks, and have a great day.
