How do I install Measurement Studio 1.0.1 Component Works on Windows 7?

How do I install Measurement Studio 1.0.1 Component Works on Windows 7?  The installer is 16-bit so it won't run on Windows 7.  Is there a known workaround?

Thanks.

Hi pstack12,

Unfortunately, Measurement Studio 1.0.1 CW does not have support for Windows 7, and you will not be able to work around this.  I apologize for the inconvenience.

The components work fine in Windows 7.  The issue is licensing the components.  I'm not sure how to do that because I can't run the 16-bit installation exe.

Hi pstack,

It may work fine in Windows 7, but this isn't something that we can directly support.  We have not designated the appropriate R&D resources to develop an installation that has been verified to work on this system, nor have we identified a work-around to get this platform to all of a sudden become compatible with this installation.

I apologize for the inconvenience.  Your only options at this point are to use the unsupported ComponentWorks on Windows 7 without being able to include licensing, or you will need to change platforms.

Or use a different vendor with better support.

I want to make sure it's clear that Measurement Studio 1.0.1 Component Works was released in early 2000, which is before *Windows XP* had even been released.  We are currenly on version 8.9 of Measurement Studio, and have had official support for Windows 7 for more than a year.  Because we support both 32 and 64 bit versions of Windows 7, and 64 bit Windows operating systems do not allow for the execution of 16 bit executables, the Measurement Studio 1.0.1 Component Works installer would have to be entirely re-created, which clearly does not make business sense 10 years later.

The components themselves still work fine as far as I can tell.  I just need a way to license them on the Win7 development PC.  I don't need a full blown installation program.  Just a workaround would be great.

So do you recommend upgrading to the current Measurement Studio version for an application that is currenlty running on XP with Component Works 2.0? I will need 32-bit and 64-bit builds.

If you want to develop for 64-bit you must use .NET and you must use Measurement Studio 2009 or later.
