Hi John,
Are you logged in with Administrator priviledges? If you log in as a member of the Users group, MAX can have problems accessing its configuration files.
Which service pack is Windows 2000?
You could also try these steps, however beware this will delete any DAQmx configuration that is set up on this machine:
Close MAX. Go to Control Panel>>Administrative Tools>>Services - find and stop the nidevldu (nipxirmu) service.
Terminate any National Instruments Applications and processes. Open up Task Manager and look primarily for the NIMAX.EXE and nipalsm processes. These are the most common tasks that will need to be terminated even after all the applications have been closed.
Delete all MAX data files - Warning: this step will delete all NI-DAQmx virtual channels and SCXI chasses - but it won't affect any of the traditional DAQ configuration.
Go to ..\National Instruments\MAX\Data\ and delete all of the files in this directory.
Restart the nidevldu (nipxirmu) service from the services control panel. This service can be restarted from the same place that it was stopped. Verify that all the files deleted from the ..\MAX\Data folder are created again after restarting the service.
Try restarting MAX and see if this cures the problem.
Good Luck!
Best wishes,
Mark
